help,the data file disappear!!

I compile and install the openldap1.2.7 on TurboLinux 4.0
At beginning,the ldap work well .
But if I reboot the system by the command 'reboot',the data files in the
directory /usr/tmp that defined in the slapd.conf would disappear and all
record be lost  often but not always.
Why the database file would lost sometimes,can anyone give me some advice?
