slapd debug: how to turn off ?

Hello,

I would like to turn off slapd's debug/trace messaging totally. How can I do
this? Even if I start it with -d 0 it still logs through the syslog.. I
would prefer not to recompile it. I have openldapd 1.2.11-1 on Debian from
the potato distribution.
