All pam does is authenticate, so by definition the only thing that pam
gets from ldap is the uid and password.

The other half of the equation is nss_ldap, which is what provides the
other information to getpwnam() and friends. If you're not using
nss_ldap, then the information will be retrieved from the /etc files,
regardless of whether you're using pam_ldap or not.
