organising a company directory

Now that I have more or less understood the basics of LDAP I am about to
create a directory of clients, suppliers, contacts, prospects, etc..
available on our company LDAP server.

The only problem is that LDAP gives so much freedom in organising data!
I wish I found some starting point for making our directory rational and
well-structured. Is there some public LDAP server or document that I
could browse for inspiration?
