cleartext credentials for slurpd

Hello All,

    Is it necessary that the replicator dn's credentials are provided in the
slapd.conf file in cleartext?

Replication works when slpad.conf has credentials provided  in cleartext and
the slave db has an existing entry for the replicator dn with userpassword
in cleartext too. But if I switch both of these entries to, say
{crypt}xxxxx, it fails.

    Any idea?
