Basic LDAP

Is there a basic tutorial describing what all the tags and such in
LDAP mean?  I have OpenDAP 2.0.7 installed and the book "Implementing
LDAP"  but somethings are not clear to me.  So far, LDAP looks very
much like Novell's NDS but, unless I am missing something, some of the
concepts do not seem to fit too well.
