It references slap.h which obviously exists.
It also references a Refactoring document, published here:
http://www.openldap.org/conf/odd-sfo-2003/proceedings.html

The overlay interface has expanded a bit since then of course. Not in 
significant ways, no major changes in direction or approach, nothing worth 
mentioning IMO.
