well, one solution would be to set up a 'main' site outside the US and have
a
mirror inside the US.

I'd gladly be of help if a webserver/ftp-server/diskspace/domainname etc is
needed. I think it a shame if the rest of the world would find that OpenLDAP
is
open to US only.
