Correct.  I was mistaken by the presence of the field in the schema 
stucture of include/ldap_schema.h:

typedef struct ldap_syntax {
         char *syn_oid;          /* REQUIRED */
         char **syn_names;       /* OPTIONAL */
         char *syn_desc;         /* OPTIONAL */
         LDAPSchemaExtensionItem **syn_extensions; /* OPTIONAL */
} LDAPSyntax;

We should probably trim it, although it could (would) break binary 
interoperability at the libldap level.  I'd note rfc4517 does not 
mention extensions, either...
