This should now be fixed in HEAD.

/repo/OpenLDAP/pkg/ldap/servers/slapd/back-meta/dncache.c,v  <--  dncache.c
new revision: 1.15; previous revision: 1.14

Since this area didn't change for ages, you should be able to grab back-
meta/dncache.c from HEAD and use it with 2.3.12 straightforwardly.
