openldap1.2.11 falling apart on solaris6

hi,

i post again, since i can't imagine it only happens here:

on SunOS httpd 5.6 Generic_105181-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250

proftpd/openldap running, but at least once a week slapd starts refusing
connection/failing

mod_ldap: p_ldap_connect(): ldap_open() to localhost failed

it's not proftpd, since ldapsearch won't respond either
i'm getting a hard time explaining to management why i picked openldap,

2.x won't work at all, maybe the docs are still referring to 1.x ?

*anyone* had this problem? i MUST fix this asap, or dump the whole
openldap.
