(Answer) (Category) OpenLDAP Faq-O-Matic : (Category) OpenLDAP Software FAQ : (Category) Are "packaged" releases of OpenLDAP Software available? : (Answer) Apple "Open Directory" for Mac OS X

A customised version of OpenLDAP Software is bundled with Mac OS X 10.2. The differences from OpenLDAP 2.1.0 are as follows:

  • Some fixes from OpenLDAP 2.1.2 were included
  • There is support for Apple's Password Server
  • A new backend which integrates with Apple's NetInfo hierarchical datastore is included

Source code is available from Apple's Open Source web site. It should build on 10.2 with a minimum of hassle.

Also, see the following article for advanced configuration notes on OpenLDAP Software on OS X 10.2.
