What are the contents of your DB_CONFIG file?
If you used slapadd to load the DB, what does "which slapadd" show? Did you get the correct slapadd?

If you run ldd on slapd, what BDB library is it actually linked against?

I'm running all of the same packages on RedHat ES 3.0 & Solaris 8 w/o issue. It sounds to me like you are getting the wrong BDB library.

So I'm getting a bunch of "illegal flag specified to txn_begin." I
think this means BDB is "wacky." So now you want to know what version
I'm running (see above), and then you wonder what patches I'm running.
Just the two patches from Sleepycat that they recommend for 4.2.52. For
OpenLDAP, I'm using four patches mentioned on the ITS pages at Stanford
(which is a great page!):

Thanks.
