Request for Review re Passwd Backend

I have just spent a rather long time trying to figure out how to use the
passwd backend for OpenLDAP. I then sent a note to OpenLDAP-general,
and after going back and forth a few times, Kurt Zeilenga gave me a
one-line example. Bang, it works.

I wish this was documented somewhere. The slapd.conf man page mentions
that a suffix is required for all backends, and that the "database" line
would be "passwd", but how would I ever guess that a suffix of
"o=passwd" would work, or that the entries in /etc/passwd would all be
mapped to a "person" object?

I would hate to see this functionality removed; I understand that it is
basically a demo of how a backend should work, but it works! and there
are a lot of /etc/passwd files out there.

I have posted a note to the Faq-O-Matic, under the Configuration
section, about this, and I would be glad to help in any way I can.
