The following is a quick start guide for OpenLDAP 1.2 software. It is provided for historical purposes only.

It is meant to step you through the basic steps needed to install and configure OpenLDAP software. It should be used in conjunction with manual pages and other materials provided with the distribution or on the OpenLDAP web site (http://www.openldap.org/).

1. (Answer) Obtain the software
2. (Answer) Extract the distribution files
3. (Answer) Review README and INSTALL documents
4. (Answer) Run configure
5. (Answer) Build the software
6. (Answer) Test the build
7. (Answer) Install the software
8. (Answer) Create configuration file for SLAPD
9. (Answer) Start SLAPD
10. (Answer) Add initial entries to your directory
11. (Answer) See if it works!
